In short

About 3 minutes to read
  • Pride in Business is Just Gold's publication on LGBTIQA+ business ownership, workplaces and professional life in Australia.
  • Its anchor is The State of LGBTIQA+ Business in Australia (working title), a free national research report planned for 2027.
  • The report will be co designed with the Just Gold LGBTIQA+ Advisory Board, which is recruiting now.

What Pride in Business is

Pride in Business brings together LGBTIQA+ business, workplace and professional content from across Australia in one place. It is a gateway, not a competitor: where good work already exists, including from Pride in Diversity, the Pride Business Association and the Pride Business Network, Pride in Business links out to the source.

It is published by Just Gold through its impact program. It is not a commercial product.

What it publishes

  • A weekly column
  • Explainers that stay current, on the questions LGBTIQA+ business owners and buyers keep asking
  • A data page, updated annually
  • A monthly briefing

The State of LGBTIQA+ Business in Australia

The anchor of Pride in Business is a research report, The State of LGBTIQA+ Business in Australia (working title). Planned for 2027, it will be the first national research report on LGBTIQA+ business ownership and its place in Australia’s purchasing systems. Just Gold will publish it free, with research review and intersectional analysis from the Aurum Foundation, disclosed as an expert review rather than an independent one because the two organisations share leadership.

The report will ask four questions nobody has answered for Australia:

  • How many LGBTIQA+ owned businesses are there, and what can be said about them from the data that exists? The 2026 Census will, for the first time, let owner managers be described by sexual orientation and gender when results land in 2027, but it counts people, not enterprises. Any estimate of enterprise numbers will be presented as a range, with its method shown.
  • Do Australia’s major buyers recognise LGBTIQA+ ownership as a supplier diversity category? The report will scan the published supplier diversity and social procurement policies of the ASX 50 and the major Commonwealth and state purchasing agencies, one document at a time, distinguishing silence from exclusion and recognition on paper from purchasing in practice.
  • How does Australia compare? The United States and Canada have certified LGBTIQA+ owned businesses for years and place them inside national supplier diversity systems alongside Indigenous, women owned and minority owned business. Australia has the same four groups, a strong architecture for three of them, and nothing for the fourth.
  • What do owners and buyers say? Interviews with LGBTIQA+ business owners and with procurement and supplier diversity leads, on why LGBTIQA+ owned businesses do not appear in supply chains and what would have to exist for that to change.

What it is not

The report will not be a count of businesses that pretends to a precision the data cannot support. It will not rank employers. It is not a case for any particular body or scheme: if the evidence points somewhere, the report will say so and let the sector draw the conclusion.

Co designed with the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Board

The report will be co designed with the Just Gold LGBTIQA+ Advisory Board, which is recruiting now. Volunteer and remunerated positions are available, and expressions of interest close on 6 December 2026.
