About Just Gold

Just Gold is Australia’s first certified social enterprise management consultancy and creative agency. We are Autistic and LGBTIQA+ owned and led, with offices in Melbourne and Sydney, and work nationally with government, peak bodies and major organisations across strategy, communications, disability inclusion, social procurement and creative production.

Purpose of the board

The LGBTIQA+ Advisory Board provides independent advice and constructive challenge to the Founder and CEO on Just Gold’s LGBTIQA+ work: the programs, campaigns, research and client advice that affect LGBTIQA+ communities, including Think Pride and our work with organisations such as Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. It holds that work to the standard of the community it serves.

The State of LGBTIQA+ Business in Australia

In 2027, the board will co design The State of LGBTIQA+ Business in Australia (working title), the anchor of our new Pride in Business publication and planned as the first national research report on LGBTIQA+ business ownership and its place in Australia’s purchasing systems. Just Gold will publish the report free through its impact program, with research review and intersectional analysis from the Aurum Foundation.

The report will ask four questions nobody has answered for Australia:

  • How many LGBTIQA+ owned businesses are there, and what can be said about them from the data that exists?
  • Do Australia’s major buyers recognise LGBTIQA+ ownership as a supplier diversity category? The report will scan the published supplier diversity and social procurement policies of the ASX 50 and the major Commonwealth and state purchasing agencies, one document at a time.
  • How does Australia compare with the United States and Canada, which have certified LGBTIQA+ owned businesses for years?
  • What do LGBTIQA+ business owners and procurement leads say about why LGBTIQA+ owned businesses do not appear in supply chains, and what would have to exist for that to change?

Members will co design the research with Just Gold: its method, the interviews and how the findings are presented to procurement officers, policy staff, journalists and LGBTIQA+ business owners. The aim is to replace assumption with evidence, and let the sector draw its own conclusions about what should exist next.

What members do

  • Give independent advice and constructive challenge to the Founder and CEO at each quarterly meeting.
  • Read the agenda and papers, which are circulated five business days before each meeting.
  • Provide occasional input out of session, on the same terms as advice given in a meeting.
  • Declare actual, potential and perceived conflicts of interest on appointment and as they arise.

The board will have five to eight members.

Scope

Within scope: co design of The State of LGBTIQA+ Business in Australia report in 2027, the direction and integrity of Just Gold’s LGBTIQA+ programs and campaigns, how Just Gold advises clients on LGBTIQA+ inclusion, community trust and consultation, and the impact of our LGBTIQA+ work.

Outside scope unless expressly invited: day to day management, employment matters, client engagements, and any matter that would require a member to direct staff or deal with third parties on Just Gold’s behalf.

What we are looking for

  • Lived experience as an LGBTIQA+ person
  • Leadership in LGBTIQA+ community, health or advocacy organisations
  • Policy, government and public sector inclusion
  • Research, evaluation and data on LGBTIQA+ communities and LGBTIQA+ owned businesses
  • Small business, supplier diversity and social procurement
  • Campaigns, media and the creative industries

We are seeking a board that reflects the breadth of LGBTIQA+ communities, including trans and gender diverse people, First Nations people, people from multicultural backgrounds and people with disability.

Just Gold is an Autistic and LGBTIQA+ owned certified social enterprise. We welcome applications from people with disability and neurodivergent people, and provide adjustments at any stage of the process on request.

Volunteer and remunerated positions

Both volunteer and remunerated positions are offered on this board. Remunerated members receive a fixed fee per meeting, inclusive of preparation and reasonable out of session input, applied equally across remunerated members. Reasonable expenses incurred at Just Gold’s request and approved in advance are reimbursed. Please tell us in your expression of interest which you are seeking.

How the board works

The board is advisory only. Members are not directors, officers, employees or agents of Just Gold Digital Agency Pty Ltd, have no authority to make decisions for or represent the company, and do not take on directors’ duties. All decisions remain with the company’s director.

All papers and discussions are confidential, and each member signs a confidentiality deed on appointment. Members may state the fact of their membership, but make no public comment for or about Just Gold without the CEO’s prior approval. Members keep their own intellectual property and methodologies.

Either party may end an appointment with thirty days written notice.
